========== THE HISTORY ==========
Commissioned in 1771, Fort Mifflin earned its legendary nickname "The Fort That Saved America" when 400 freezing, starving soldiers held off 250 British warships for six brutal weeks in 1777. Nearly 70% of the garrison was killed or wounded during the greatest bombardment of the Revolutionary War - with reports of 1,000 cannonballs fired at the fort in just ONE HOUR! Their sacrifice gave George Washington time to reach Valley Forge and ultimately win the war.
During the Civil War, Fort Mifflin became a nightmare prison where Confederate POWs, Union deserters, and civilians were crammed into damp, disease-ridden casemates. Men died slowly of starvation and disease. On August 26, 1864, Union Private William H. Howe was hanged at the fort - possibly innocent of his crimes. With at least 26 confirmed deaths within its walls and countless more lost to history, Fort Mifflin has become one of the most paranormally active locations in America.
============== THE PARANORMAL ==============
Fort Mifflin's supernatural activity is LEGENDARY and has sent seasoned investigators fleeing in terror! The most feared entity is the Faceless Man who haunts Casemate No. 5 - witnesses report a hunched figure sewing in the darkness who slowly raises his head to reveal he has NO FACE, believed to be executed prisoner William Howe still wearing his execution hood.
Blood-curdling screams echo from the Officers' Quarters - cries so realistic that police have responded to emergency calls. This anguished spirit is Elizabeth Pratt, whose two children died of yellow fever in one year before she succumbed herself. A ghostly Revolutionary War soldier in full period attire offers detailed historical tours and answers questions before vanishing without a trace.
Doors and windows slam violently in the Blacksmith Shop as the spirit of Jacob continues his centuries-old argument with his commandant, while phantom hammer strikes on the anvil echo through empty buildings. Visitors experience crushing chest tightness and stabbing pains near the West Sallyport where over 200 soldiers died. Equipment malfunctions are constant - batteries drain instantly and objects move on their own!
